Save it for a rainy day….

“Sometimes the  most urgent thing

you can possibly do is take a complete rest.”

–Ashleigh Brilliant–

Chillin’ with my crew…

It’s been a rainy day here today in the Granite State .  There’s a chill in the air and the leaves are trumpeting their last hurray in red and gold before winter sets in.  It’s the kind of day where, as my dear friend Mimi wisely observed, you toss on a pair of sweats, throw dinner in the crockpot (“Set it and forget it!” ;-)), and then kick back and let the luscious scent of autumn fill your home (I’m already catching a whiff of beef stew…)

Bug and Beau and I took the hint and snuggled in for a day of relaxation–reading and snoozing as the rain tapped softly on the windowpanes and the snores of the dogs sketched a lovely contrappunto. It was, in a word, a perfect afternoon.

As we drift into Friday evening, I leave you with the dulcet tones of singer-songwriter Melody Gardot (a personal favorite) singing “The Rain.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQA4EoE2cOM

Happy Friday all….

Thank you for the fun post and photos. I have a chocolate lab named Duke (jokingly named Duke of Cadbury on his registration papers.) He and I are best buds and he is my shadow. I wrote a song about him named “My Old Friend” and put it on my blog awhile ago.

    • Oh, you’re very welcome! I’m delighted that you enjoy them. 🙂 Having a chocolate lab of your own, I know you can well appreciate the many happy times we have with Beau (and I LOVE Duke’s registered name–so clever!). Will look up your song!

  5. What gorgeous pics! And they say that cats know how to relax…! 😉

    • Laughing…thx Carolyn. Yes, my crew has “kicking back” down to a science. :-). Thx so much for stopping by my blog AND following! I so enjoyed your travel post that David Kanigan shared. I have had the pleasure of visiting your gorgeous country and CANNOT WAIT to return. I’ve actually stayed at the lovely Cradle Mountain lodge in Tasmania….ahhhh. Have very dear friends in Campbelltown NSW who visited us in May–we’re hoping for a reciprocal trip to Oz in the not-too-distant future. Thx for sharing the beauty of your country with us…. Warmly, Lori

There is nothing better than looking at you and the pups enjoying an afternoon in the most perfect way…You look like you’re totally relaxed – and the close-up of Beau (oh, I could just kiss that nose forever)…Add Melody to the mix – and one need little else (except a pillow for your head when you feel a doze coming on)..xo

    • We *were* pretty doggone cozy! With my two little heating blankets sprawled across my lap, I was all set. :-). And yes, Beau was in “full-on nap mode” — I, too, wanted to just take a bite out of him he looked so sweet. Xoxo

  9. It is Saturday here in Australia and after a busy week it a GREAT day for sitting back doing nothing …. so have taken your advice and I am sitting doing nothing (except catching up on my writing and blogging but they do not count). Have a great day and a fantastic weekend. 🙂

  10. It is so mixed up…we out here in NorCal are in the the high 80’s still for a few more days…the summer that won’t give up!! A nice quiet reflective rainy day sure sounds perfect right now! I am so tired of all summer clothes. Snuggle up with your furkids and tuck in for a lovely evening! xo

    • Awww, Bonnie, I know you were trying to be comforting and supportive, but honestly, high 80s and the summer that won’t end?! You’re killin’ me!! ;-). To be fair, we’ve had our share of sunny days, so a good “hunker down and snuggle in” rain day suited me right down to the ground…. :-). Hope you guys have a GREAT weekend, whatever the weather… Xo

      • I am so sorry!! 🙂 We are all so tired of it, it didn’t occur to me…that that might have not been very nice! honest. We all want fall to arrive…in it’s crisp glory, but everything is a bit mixed up! Sending you some sunshine, ok!? 🙂 xo

      • Fall “in it’s crisp glory” is lovely, I must confess. You’re forgiven. 🙂 have a great weekend! Do
